Octopus is a rapidly growing, global energy business.
We are looking for a grid analyst with a passion for understanding and designing electricity grids.
This role is an exciting opportunity to use and develop superb tools to help inform our own commercial decisions as well as to help shape the energy system for participants, both in the UK and around the world.
In the 10 years since launching we have become the largest household supplier in the UK, one of the fastest growing in Europe and are scaling businesses in everything from Renewable Generation to domestic flexibility, and from domestic heat pumps to public EV charging.
In total we are operating dozens of businesses in over 30 countries around the World - and we have a lot further to go.
What you'll do Grid assessment: Map, analyze and model grids across various markets.
Analyze and provide insights to inform capex strategy, prioritising non-wire solutions.
Techno-economic and electrical power flow modeling to define optimal mix of resources against specific objectives (grid constraints, peak profile, LOLE, LCOE etc.
) Technical assessment of solutions for grid quality and stability issues, with a focus on non-wire solutions (flexibility and BESS).
Grid development plans: support the team in reviewing and designing grid investment plans or Integrated Resource Plans, for technical sign-off.
Interconnection: Analyse grid constraints and provide insights on grid connection queues.
Interest in expanding into commercial modelling What you'll need Strong background in energy systems.
Or an educational background in electrical engineering or power system modeling Advanced power flow modelling expertise (PSCAD, PSSE, PowerFactory, PandaPower) and knowledge of non-linear optimization.
Ability to run or develop deterministic physics based grid modeling tools.
Knowledge of linear, economic modelling, e.
plexos, is a plus.
Experience with DERs, medium and high voltage grids and utility-scale energy projects.
